Who Should Intern?

September 27th, 2009

Interning and internships have been fairly common in some industries, it hasn’t been until recently that almost everyone is being encouraged to intern. There are many reasons why to intern, the most obvious is “real job experience.” Choosing a major may be a reason one doesn’t readily think of. If you intern early in your academic career you have an opportunity to “try out” a certain job you think you may be interested in or thought you might be good in. The “trying out” of a potential career is also a good idea for career changers. For the student it helps to set them on the track of what they may need to study, for the career changer it helps identify what transferable skills they bring to a new career. Anyone needing a better picture of what a potential career would be like needs to intern before investing more time and money.
